About us
SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety (WHS) regulator. Our mission is to reduce work-related fatalities, injuries and illnesses by ensuring workplaces comply with health and safety laws. We achieve this through a mix of responsive and proactive programs targeting high-risk areas across all industries, aligned with our strategic plan and regulatory priorities.
About the role:
As a Senior Research and Policy Officer, you will coordinate and conduct research projects and programs, in partnership with key stakeholders to unearth pragmatic insights to inform policy, practice and innovative approaches to improve WHS outcomes for people of NSW. You will part of the Regulatory Policy team, which leads WHS legislative and policy reform, provides expert regulatory advice, supports NSW’s engagement in national WHS forums, implements changes to national model laws within the NSW legislative framework, and prepares high‑quality submissions and reports.
Key Responsibilities

Research, analyse and review complex policy issues, identify emerging issues, develop evidence‑based options and recommend solutions.

Deliver research aligned to priority areas and engage stakeholders in research to develop policy options and inform decisions.

Contribute to research protocols, undertake key research activities, and analyse findings to produce clear reports with recommendations for decision-making.

Apply project management and evaluation principles to optimise use of resources, deliver outcomes and drive continuous improvement.

Contribute to identifying measurable evaluation tools to ensure research programs meet stakeholder needs and apply appropriate scientific methods.
