Primary objective
Oversee the management of Department of Education and Training Skills Centres across the NT and establish and maintain
partnerships to drive improvement and deliver on project outcomes related to Vocational Education and Training (VET).
Context statement
Skills NT provides leadership and strategic oversight of VET to build a skilled and capable Northern Territory workforce.
As the Territory’s state training authority, Skills NT ensures the effective delivery of the national VET framework and
apprenticeships. The Skills NT team works in partnership with industry, community organisations and registered training
organisations to deliver high-quality training aligned to current and future workforce needs.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide professional supervision and support to a geographically distributed dynamic work unit and demonstrate
effective leadership to support the business area to achieve its operational goals and to attract, develop and retain high
performing staff.
2. Manage the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of strategic projects, including the development and
implementation of cross-agency commitments.
3. Manage the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of business planning processes.
4. Lead the development and maintenance of strategic alliances and collaborative partnerships with internal and external
stakeholders at local and national levels to ensure projects are implemented successfully and service delivery is
appropriate and reflects changing demands.
5. Undertake and oversee preparation of timely, concise, and comprehensive reports for executive, including briefs for
hearings, preparation of Cabinet submissions and Ministerials, with a focus on VET.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Highly developed knowledge in the areas of strategic planning, information management, project management, human
resource management, budget management, risk management and governance.
2. Superior written communication and reporting skills for the presentation of a range of complex and detailed reports and
correspondence.
3. Demonstrated team leadership and ability to design and develop strategic policy and initiatives.
Highly developed experience in risk management and quality improvement with the ability to guide the implementation
of quality improvement processes.
4. Demonstrated experience in high level policy development, strategic policy design and development planning processes.
5. Demonstrated ability to build strategic external and internal relationships, collaborate with key stakeholders and
communicate with influence to meet departmental objectives.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in governance or education.

The selected applicant must have a current NT Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) and driver’s licence or the ability
to obtain prior to commencement. This position will also require the applicant to travel to remote communities in light aircraft
and/or 4WD as necessary.
