The primary purpose of this role is to provide training and clinical exposure in acute, chronic and cancer pain management with the opportunity to gain procedural skills as well as experience in psychology based treatments. This position serves to provide training in Pain Management in preparation for completing requirements to attain Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine.
Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the medical officer’s skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Specialist. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health district are under the direct care of a Specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
What you'll be doing
- Under appropriate supervision, contribute to the provision of pain management services in both inpatient and outpatient settings whilst developing greater clinical expertise and knowledge in pain management practice to develop competencies in line with training requirements and to provide safe patient care in a variety of clinical contexts.
- Coordinate with surgical, nursing and other disciplines to ensure optimal care including diagnostic tests and consultations.
- Ensure that review of all pathology, radiology and other diagnostic reports are undertaken and advising the supervising specialist of relevant results.
