About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Superintendent to lead our on-site Underground Geology team on an 8/6 Roster, FIFO from Perth. This role is a critical leadership position that directly supports life-of-mine planning and long-term value generation.
The Underground Geology Superintendent is a lead geological role at Telfer, responsible for ensuring the effective operation of the Underground Geology team while supporting the Open Pit Geology Superintendent in a back-to-back function. This role provides essential support to mining operations during an exciting expansion program, including the >8Moz Havieron underground deposit, which is in early development.
The position requires strong mining operations experience to drive the well-established Mine Geology department. Contractor management, optimising ore extraction, grade control modeling, and reconciliation are critical skills for a successful candidate.
Key responsibilities include:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of geologists, technicians, and contractors.
Set and uphold expectations around safety, technical performance, and behaviours.
Build a high-performance team culture focused on innovation and collaboration.
Drive visible safety leadership and accountability within your team and contractors.
Oversee the collection, validation, and QAQC of all geological data.
Ensure data is accurate, timely, and supports robust modelling and mine planning.
Provide clear geological guidance to the mine operations teams
Provide input to mine planning and design, supporting both short-term and long-term mine plans.
Work closely with the engineering team to quantify geological risk and optimise metal recovery in mine design.
Monitor expenditure, track progress, and deliver accurate forecasting.
Ensure drilling outcomes align with broader operational strategies.
Maintain and improve technical standards in logging, sampling, and data management.
Identify and implement new technologies and workflows that enhance safety and geological understanding.
Prepare site technical reports & presentations for senior management, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders.
Oversee grade control processes, GC block modeling, and geological data collection to maximize ore recovery and grade estimation.
About You
We are searching for seasoned professional with a strong track record of leading geological teams in a mining environment. They are an influential safety leader, a technical specialist and an effective communicator who thrives on collaboration and continuous improvement.
Other requirements include:
Bachelor's degree in Geology
Manual driver licence
10+ years’ experience in mining geology, with significant value for candidates with experience in both open pit and underground environments.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
Strong knowledge in geological reconciliation processes.
Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Vulcan, Datamine, Leapfrog).
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Familiarity with relevant mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental compliance.
