Role description
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Boiler Attendant / Metal Tradesperson to support the safe and compliant operation of our hospital boiler and steam plant systems.
This critical role ensures the continuous supply of steam and hot water, supporting essential clinical services, infection control processes, heating, and domestic hot water systems. You will play a key role in maintaining system reliability while actively managing risks such as Legionella and plant failure.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain boiler systems and associated plant (steam, hot water, pumps, valves, and controls)
- Monitor Building Management System (BMS) for alarms, performance, and system trends
- Perform routine inspections, readings, and accurate log keeping
- Conduct water testing and chemical dosing to maintain system integrity
- Support infection control by maintaining compliant domestic hot water temperatures
- Respond promptly to alarms, faults, and plant failures to minimise impact on patient care
- Perform minor maintenance and troubleshooting of plant equipment
- Support planned maintenance, shutdowns, and statutory inspections
- Liaise with contractors, engineering staff, and clinical teams as required
- Maintain plant rooms in a clean, safe, and compliant condition
- Participate in emergency responses and audits
- Participate in On Call roster as required
- Support broader Facilities Team with response to organisational needs
About you
Essential:
- Current Victorian Boiler Attendant / Operator certification (or equivalent recognised qualification) or willingness to update/upgrade
- Knowledge of WorkSafe Victoria boiler operation requirements
- Current full unrestricted Victorian Drivers Licence
Desirable:
- Training or competency in: Water treatment and sampling, Legionella risk management (desirable)
- White Card (Construction Induction) - desirable
- Experience in hospital, healthcare, or critical infrastructure facilities highly desirable
- Experience with; Building Management Systems (BMS), Steam generation and distribution systems, compliance-driven environments with strict reporting requirements
