Mackay Regional Council are seeking a plant enthusiast to join the collaborative Parks and Environment team as a Nursery Officer. This is a full-time permanent position with 4 or 5 weeks annual leave on a 9 day fortnight roster.
About this opportunity:
As a Nursery Office you will assist in the cultivation and production of plants for various Mackay Regional Council areas, such as the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens, Queens Park, Orchid House, and local libraries. Carry out essential nursery maintenance tasks including ordering materials, collating orders, stocktaking, plant propagation, soil and irrigation testing, weed control, and pest management. Provide guidance to volunteers and key stakeholders, including Friends of the Gardens and the Society for Growing Australian Plants (SGAP), while keeping volunteer records updated. Support promotional activities by helping to create materials and participating in open days, workshops, and community events. Handle seed collection, cataloguing, record-keeping, and storage, and operate and maintain relevant tools and equipment.
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- QLD C Class Drivers Licence or interstate equivalent
- General Construction Induction Training
- Experience working in plant nursery operations, gardening, landscaping or labouring.
- Practical experience in the operation and maintenance of machinery associated with holistic park maintenance

- Base annual salary of $56,008 - $58,041 + allowance as applicable (level offered will be dependent on successful candidates’ qualification and experience)
