About the Team
The Queensland Youth Cancer Service (QYCS) provides specialist, age-appropriate cancer care and support for young people diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 15 and 25, anywhere in Queensland. QYCS works alongside the treating oncology team to provide age-appropriate medical, emotional, social, and practical support across the full arc of a young person's cancer experience, from diagnosis, through treatment, and into life after treatment, with on-demand support available up to age 35.
Our team includes medical staff, cancer care coordinators, nurses, social workers, survivorship and transition coordinators and in some locations psychologists and leisure therapists based on the ground at five major Queensland hospitals - Queensland Children's Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Gold Coast University Hospital and Townsville University Hospital. For young people receiving treatment outside these hospitals, a Statewide psychosocial clinician provides support via telehealth and Clinical Nurse Consultant provides expert advice, education and clinical capacity building for local treating clinicians to ensure the young person receives care that best meets their unique needs.
About the Role
The purpose of this role is to provide clinical expertise and consultancy through advanced clinical leadership relevant to the speciality of adolescent and young adult (AYA) oncology nursing. The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) QYCS Statewide Program is an important member of the QYCS Statewide Team, bringing discipline specific expertise to enhance statewide capacity in AYA cancer care, independent project/portfolio leadership and provision of non-routine clinical advice to inform strategic and operational service delivery. The position is responsible for design and coordinating the QYCS Statewide Education portfolio and other projects as directed. While the position currently does not provide direct patient care, it plays an important consultation and liaison function with the patient's core treating team to ensure best practice. The position works in collaboration with the QYCS Program Director, QYCS Medical Director, site specific nursing staff, local nursing leadership and wider health care team support the clinical unit in provision of safe quality healthcare through exemplary clinical nursing standards of practice for the specialty of AYA oncology nursing.
