We're a growing telecommunications company looking for an experienced Project Manager / Fibre Splice Technician to join our team, servicing Darwin and the wider Northern Territory.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can balance the technical demands of fibre splicing and network installation with the coordination and planning needed to run projects from start to finish. You'll be equally comfortable in a hard hat with a splice machine as you are managing timelines, subcontractors, and client expectations.
About the Role
You'll be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of fibre optic installation and maintenance projects across Darwin and NT — from initial planning and scheduling through to on-site splicing, testing, and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and manage fibre optic installation and maintenance projects across Darwin and regional NT
- Perform fusion splicing, termination, and testing of fibre optic cable (OTDR testing, power meter readings, etc.)
- Coordinate and supervise field technicians, subcontractors, and equipment/material logistics
- Oversee and take part in cable installation and hauling, including underground, aerial, and duct-based fibre runs
- Liaise with clients, council/utility bodies, and other stakeholders to manage approvals and site access
- Ensure work is completed to industry standards, on time, and within budget
- Maintain accurate project documentation, splice records, and as-built drawings
- Identify and resolve network faults and splicing issues in the field
- Ensure all work complies with WHS requirements, particularly around remote and regional site conditions
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in fibre optic splicing and termination
- Hands-on experience with cable installation and hauling (underground, and/or duct/conduit methods)
- Experience managing telecommunications projects, ideally in a field/civil works environment
- Sound understanding of OTDR testing, fibre network design, and industry standards
- Strong organisational skills — able to juggle scheduling, logistics, and on-site technical work
- A current driver's licence and willingness to travel to remote and regional NT locations
- Relevant telecommunications qualifications (e.g. Cert III/IV in Telecommunications or equivalent) and ACMA registration where applicable
- Comfortable working in NT conditions, including remote travel and seasonal weather
- Strong communication skills — you'll be dealing with clients, crews, and internal stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Experience with Telstra Wideband, government, or utility-sector telecommunications projects
- Prior project management certification (or equivalent on-the-job experience)
- Experience training or supervising junior technicians
- Experience supervising field staff and coordinating crew rosters
