About the Role:
As Head of Networks, you will lead the strategic direction, design, delivery and operation of our telecommunications network, ensuring it remains scalable, secure and aligned with business objectives.
Leading a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will balance technical leadership with operational excellence, driving network performance, reliability and continuous improvement. You will play a key role in shaping the future of our network infrastructure, delivering commercially efficient solutions and high-quality wholesale network services.
This is an opportunity to influence technology strategy at a senior level, lead complex network initiatives, and make a lasting impact on a critical telecommunications environment.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Lead the strategy, architecture, delivery and operation of the organisation's telecommunications network, ensuring it is secure, resilient, scalable and aligned to business objectives.
- Develop and lead a high-performing engineering team, building capability, driving accountability and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Define network roadmaps, engineering standards and technology strategies that support growth, innovation and operational excellence.
- Oversee the design and evolution of network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, security and commercial outcomes.
- Lead the successful delivery of network programs and initiatives, balancing strategic transformation with operational priorities.
- Act as the senior technical authority for the network, providing leadership during major incidents, escalations and complex operational challenges.
- Build and manage strategic vendor and technology partnerships, overseeing technology selection, integration and lifecycle management.
- Drive capacity planning, forecasting and investment decisions, developing business cases and partnering with stakeholders to support future growth.
- Collaborate with executive leaders, product, commercial and operational teams to align network capabilities with organisational priorities.
- Ensure robust governance, risk management, security and regulatory compliance across the network environment.
- Represent the network function as a trusted leader and subject matter expert, influencing technology direction and business outcomes.
About you:
The ideal person for this role will have/be:
- Proven experience leading network engineering and operations teams within a telecommunications or service provider environment.
- Strong leadership capability, with a track record of developing high-performing teams and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated experience defining and executing network strategy, architecture and technology roadmaps.
- Extensive knowledge of telecommunications networks, infrastructure, engineering principles and operational best practices.
- Commercially astute, with experience balancing technical requirements, business objectives and investment priorities.
- A strategic thinker who can translate complex technical concepts into practical business outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively at executive, technical and operational levels.
- Proven ability to lead large-scale network programs, transformation initiatives and operational improvements.
- Calm and decisive under pressure, with experience managing major incidents, escalations and complex technical challenges.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering reliable, secure and scalable network services.
- Committed to continuous improvement, innovation and the adoption of emerging technologies and industry best practice.
- Demonstrates integrity, sound judgement and a commitment to achieving exceptional outcomes for customers, teams and the business.
What We're Looking For:
- 10+ years’ experience in technical leadership roles within telecommunications, network engineering or infrastructure environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Proven experience working in wholesale, fibre, or carrier-grade network environments.
- Strong background in network architecture, design and operational management at scale.
- Demonstrated experience in vendor management and delivering large-scale network deployments.
- Familiarity with software-driven network deployment approaches and automation technologies.
- Deep understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, routing protocols and network design principles.
- Hands-on experience with GPON / XGS-PON technologies, including OLT/ONT architectures.
- Strong knowledge of capacity management, network resiliency and fibre network design.
- Experience integrating and operating OSS/BSS platforms within complex network environments.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks, including ACCC requirements, SOCI obligations and ISO standards.
