Production Trading Services – Electronic Trading, Sydney
Qube Research & Technologies (QRT) is a global quantitative and systematic investment manager, operating across liquid asset classes around the world. We are a technology and data-driven organisation that applies a scientific approach to investing. Combining data, research, technology and trading expertise has shaped our collaborative mindset and enables us to solve complex challenges. QRT's culture of innovation continuously drives our ambition to deliver high-quality returns for our investors.
Your future role within QRT
We are looking for an experienced professional to join our Production Trading Services (PTS) team in Sydney.
PTS sits at the intersection of Trading, Technology, Compliance and Operations, providing oversight of QRT's live trading environment and helping ensure our trading activity operates effectively, reliably and within established controls.
The team acts as an important link between the trading floor and the teams supporting it. You will proactively monitor trading activity and controls, understand the trading and business impact of production issues, and coordinate across relevant stakeholders to ensure issues are appropriately prioritised and addressed.
This is not an application troubleshooting role. Instead, you will develop a strong understanding of QRT's trading platform and use your knowledge of electronic trading to provide effective oversight of the production environment, represent trading impact during incidents and help strengthen the controls and processes supporting our trading activity.
Based in Sydney, you will form an important part of our APAC team and QRT's global follow-the-sun production trading coverage.
Your future role within QRT includes
- Deliver high-quality, proactive and responsive production trading services across QRT's live trading environment.
- Proactively monitor order and trade flows, trading limits and other controls that could impact trading.
- Manage trading limits and provide oversight of trading controls across relevant markets.
- Identify emerging production issues and rapidly assess their potential trading and business impact.
- Represent the trading perspective during production incidents, helping ensure issues are appropriately understood, prioritised and escalated.
- Coordinate responses across Trading, Technology, Compliance, Operations, brokers and exchanges where required.
- Support the management of trading session access and adherence to relevant trading limits and controls.
- Develop a deep functional understanding of QRT's electronic trading platform, workflows and production environment.
- Build strong relationships across the business and act as an effective link between trading and the teams supporting the production environment.
- Identify recurring issues, control gaps and opportunities to improve existing processes.
- Develop and strengthen processes and governance frameworks supporting production trading.
- Drive tactical and strategic improvements that reduce trading risk and improve operational resilience.
- Contribute to improvements in monitoring, automation and scalability as QRT's trading activity continues to grow.
- Collaborate with PTS colleagues globally to provide effective follow-the-sun coverage.
Your present skillset
- Approximately 5+ years' experience supporting or working within a live electronic trading environment.
- Strong equities knowledge and experience supporting electronic equity trading.
- Strong understanding of electronic order and trade flows and the controls surrounding a live trading environment.
- Experience managing or monitoring trading limits and controls.
- Sufficient technical understanding of electronic trading environments, including FIX protocols and low-latency trading systems, to effectively understand production issues and their potential impact on trading.
- Experience responding to trading or production incidents and coordinating across multiple teams to drive issues through to resolution.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in time-sensitive environments.
- Excellent prioritisation skills and the ability to distinguish between technical issues and their relative trading or business impact.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to listen actively, articulate issues clearly and work effectively with traders, technologists and other stakeholders.
- A solution-oriented mindset with a strong sense of accountability and ownership.
- The confidence to take responsibility for a topic and proactively drive it through to a high-quality outcome.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong team orientation and willingness to collaborate across functions and regions.
- Experience with futures would be highly desirable, while broader multi-asset experience would be advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of US markets and early APAC markets, particularly Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Korea, would be highly regarded.
- Scripting, automation or data analysis experience, including Python, would be advantageous but is not essential.
- A degree in a quantitative or technical discipline such as mathematics, physics, engineering or computer science is preferred.
What success looks like
Successful PTS team members combine strong trading knowledge with sound judgement, accountability and the ability to get things done.
You will be someone who listens actively, communicates clearly and remains solution-oriented when dealing with complex or time-sensitive situations. You are comfortable taking ownership of an issue or initiative, bringing together the right stakeholders and driving it through to a high-quality outcome within agreed timeframes.
You will also look beyond the immediate issue. Where an incident exposes a weakness in a process or control, you will help identify how it can be improved to reduce the likelihood or impact of similar issues in the future.
