About the opportunity
The School of Languages and Cultures is seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer in the field of Indonesian language and culture. This role is a great opportunity for an early-career teacher and scholar with a strong profile in communicative language teaching, curriculum design and research in Indonesian Studies.
Education-focused roles are a specialised category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. The successful candidate will dedicate the majority (up to 70% - or by mutual agreement 80%) of their academic workload allocation to education and educational development. We also highly value recognised expertise in higher education pedagogy, or the willingness to undertake additional development through for example completion of the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Higher Education) or comparable recognition (e.g. obtaining FHEA status).
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- teach and coordinate current undergraduate language (beginner through to advanced) units of study in Indonesian
- develop the language curriculum
- participate in teaching collaboration, including team-teaching of undergraduate units of study as required
- contribute to academic administration and perform service roles as required.
About you
- a PhD or equivalent in the field of Indonesian language and culture (MA holders with an exceptionally strong teaching portfolio and those enrolled in a PhD are encouraged to apply)
- native or near native competency and fluency in Indonesian
- excellent communicative ability in English
- experience in teaching Indonesian at tertiary level
- experience with e-Learning platforms and online teaching
- experience in developing online material for teaching and blended learning modules for Indonesian language classes
- excellent problem-solving, time management, and interpersonal skills
- evidence of capacity to work flexibly and collaboratively in a team environment
- the ability to assume service roles in administration and planning in the Indonesian Studies Discipline.
