Optimising Abilities is an NDIS registered provider dedicated to delivering exceptional, values-driven support across South-East Queensland. We are looking for a highly proactive Disability Support Worker on the Gold Coast who believes in doing things with people, not just for them.
What the role actually looks like:
- High-Impact Support: Your role is incredibly important. The participant relies on your drive, patience, and proactive nature. You must be able to build deep rapport and have the resilience to take each day as a new day.
- Long-Term Focus: You know that improving someone's quality of life is a journey developed over time, not overnight. You use our “teach–prompt–fade” method to foster sustainable growth.
- Continuous Value Delivery: Every shift is an opportunity to make a difference. During quiet moments, you will proactively manage the household—deep cleaning, identifying supply needs, suggesting improvements, and auditing essential safety items (first aid kits, go-bags, emergency kits, car safety kits, staff supplies). You will also creatively research future experiences tailored to the participant's interests, submitting these ideas to management way ahead of time so we can make these opportunities happen.
- The Voice of the Client: You must have strong experience with documentation, shift notes, and reporting. Your accurate, plain-English notes are critical to advocating for the participant's needs and tracking their long-term progress.
- Autonomous but Connected: You will be highly self-directed, but must maintain regular, reliable contact with your Team Leader.
- Animal Care: You must genuinely love animals! You'll be working in a home with cats (say hello to the resident white cat!), birds, fish, reptiles, and scorpions.
What you bring:
- Mandatory: Proven experience in mental health support and complex communication needs.
- An Open Australian Driver's Licence.
- Current NDIS Screening Card and Working with Children Card.
- First Aid & CPR Certificate.
- Completed NDIS Modules: Orientation, Induction, Safe Eating, and Safe Communication.
- Availability for a rotating roster (Mornings, Afternoons, Overnights).
