Location: Whyalla, South Australia.
Status: Full Time, working 38 hours per week
Annual Salary: from $80,008 to $99,294 per annum (Dependant on qualification)
Hourly Rate: $40.49 to $50.25 per hour
About the Position
The Recruitment and Assessment Officer is responsible for attracting, recruiting and assessing foster carers. This role combines community engagement, recruitment, assessment and training to ensure children and young people have access to safe, supportive and nurturing foster care placements.
As a Recruitment and Assessment Officer, your responsibilities will:
- Develop and implement recruitment campaigns to attract foster carers through community engagement, events, advertising, digital content and promotional materials.
- Review and evaluate recruitment activities, developing effective strategies to increase the number of approved foster carers.
- Build relationships with Aboriginal and CALD community groups to identify and encourage potential foster carers.
- Recruit foster carers in partnership with Families SA, ensuring culturally sensitive practice and compliance with Alternative Care Standards.
- Develop and deliver recruitment resources, publicity materials, orientation sessions, and information programs for prospective carers.
- Conduct comprehensive foster carer assessments using approved assessment tools and prepare detailed assessment reports.
- Support assessment planning, implementation, review, and continuous improvement of assessment processes.
- Maintain accurate records and coordinate required screening and Working With Children Checks.
- Facilitate foster carer training and information sessions and undertake regional travel to support recruitment, assessments, and community engagement activities.

About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Hold or be working towards a minimum Certificate IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention or Certificate IV in Community Services or another acceptable qualification as listed in Appendix 1 of the Department for Child Protection Minimum Qualification Requirements
- Experience in organising and facilitating community events.
- Experience and knowledge of marketing and marketing strategies.
- Experience in developing and implementing case plans and managing case files.
- Experience working in working collaboratively with a broad range of people.
- Knowledge of foster care laws and regulations
- Knowledge of family and social dynamics, including a working knowledge of risk factors that impact on carer abilities.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal communities, families and children.
- Demonstrated high level of ability to assess individuals and a family’s capacity to provide quality care.
- Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated high level report writing skills.
- Demonstrated high level organisational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated high level of computer literacy.
Requirements of the role:
- Hold (or willingness to obtain) a current DHS Working With Children Check *
- Hold (or a willingness to obtain) a National Criminal History Record Check (Police Check) *
- Hold a current South Australian Driver’s License (minimum Provisional License)
