About the opportunity
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Food Services Assistant with strong baking experience to join our team at Fronditha Care’s Clayton facility.
This is a hands-on role supporting the preparation and service of nutritious, well-presented meals while also helping create meaningful dining experiences for our residents.
A key focus of the role will be baking a wide variety of desserts, cakes and pastries. We are particularly interested in candidates who are confident preparing traditional Greek desserts and who understand the importance food plays in celebrating culture, tradition and connection.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and serve meals in line with residents’ dietary requirements, cultural preferences and the facility’s food safety plan.
- Bake a variety of cakes, pastries and desserts, including traditional Greek sweets.
- Assist with morning tea, afternoon tea and special-event catering.
- Support the preparation of texture-modified meals in accordance with the IDDSI framework.
- Ensure food is stored, labelled and handled safely.
- Maintain high standards of hygiene, infection control and food safety.
- Wash dishes and clean kitchen workbenches, equipment and dining areas.
- Assist with stock rotation, ordering and food-safety documentation.
- Report faulty equipment or safety concerns promptly.
- Contribute to Fronditha Care’s continuous improvement processes.
- Assist with other cleaning duties across the facility when required.
What success looks like in this role
- Demonstrated baking experience, with the ability to prepare a broad range of desserts, cakes and pastries.
- Experience preparing traditional Greek desserts will be highly regarded.
- Previous food-services experience, preferably within aged care, healthcare or a commercial kitchen.
- A current food-handling certificate.
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, Baking, Patisserie or a related qualification will be highly regarded.
- Knowledge of the IDDSI framework and texture-modified meals.
- Strong understanding of infection control and safe food-handling practices.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- A caring, reliable and resident-focused approach.
