About the role
Driven by high customer expectations, consistency and quality are at the core of the Joyce business. Based in Moorebank, the National Draftsperson is responsible for preparing, developing and maintaining detailed technical drawings, production plans, templates, specifications and related documentation for specialised foam products across six business locations. The role ensures all technical documentation is produced to precise customer and manufacturing requirements, supporting accurate product development, production planning and consistent manufacturing outcomes.
Working closely with the Sales, Estimating and Operations teams, the position interprets customer requirements and converts them into accurate technical drawings, templates and production specifications. The role also supports the development of new and modified products by preparing prototypes and technical documentation that enable costing, manufacturing, quality assessment and the efficient delivery of customer solutions.

You are a highly organised and detail-oriented technical professional with demonstrated experience in preparing detailed technical drawings, production plans, templates and specifications to precise customer and manufacturing requirements. You have the ability to interpret technical information, customer specifications and design concepts, translating them into accurate documentation that supports product development, costing and manufacturing.
You are confident working autonomously while managing multiple priorities and maintaining a high level of accuracy and consistency. You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling you to identify practical drafting solutions and ensure technical documentation meets quality and production standards.
You communicate effectively with colleagues across Sales, Estimating, Operations and Production, building collaborative working relationships to achieve the best outcomes for customers and the business. You are comfortable providing technical advice, responding to changing customer requirements and updating drawings and specifications where required.

What you'll be doing
- Interpret customer requirements, samples, specifications and technical information to determine appropriate production methods.
- Prepare detailed technical drawings, layouts, templates and production plans using computer-based drafting and design systems.
- Produce accurate measurements, dimensions and specifications for new and existing products.
- Develop computer-generated cutting instructions and technical templates to support sample production and manufacturing processes.
- Prepare prototype samples to verify product design, manufacturability and compliance with customer specifications.
- Prepare comprehensive production documentation, including drawings, technical specifications, templates and work instructions for manufacturing.
- Maintain and update electronic databases of customer drawings, specifications and technical documentation to ensure accurate production records.
- Develop, maintain and revise physical templates and technical reference materials for manufacturing personnel.
- Liaise with Sales Representatives, Estimators and Production personnel to clarify technical requirements and ensure drawings and specifications accurately reflect customer expectations.
- Provide technical advice and support regarding drawings, templates, specifications and production methods.
- Prepare technical documentation for complex or specialised products requiring detailed drafting and production planning.
- Review and amend drawings and specifications where product modifications or customer changes are required.
- Assist with validating prototypes and fabricated products to ensure compliance with technical drawings and specifications.
What we're looking for
- Relevant qualification in Drafting, Engineering Drafting, Design, Manufacturing Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 2–3 years' experience in a drafting or technical documentation role, preferably within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Demonstrated experience preparing detailed technical drawings, production plans, templates, specifications and related documentation using computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.
- Ability to accurately interpret customer requirements, technical specifications, engineering drawings and production information.
- High level of accuracy with excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce technical documentation to precise specifications.
- Experience preparing prototypes, templates and technical documentation to support product development and manufacturing processes.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet competing deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with company stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and computer-aided drafting (CAD) software, with experience maintaining electronic drawing and specification databases.
- Experience within the foam, manufacturing or fabricated products industry will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior or national drafting role, supporting multiple sites or business operations, is essential.
