Alba Italian Restaurant is seeking an experienced Bar Attendant to manage beverage preparation and bar service within our Newtown restaurant.
Alba specialises in Southern Italian food, wine, cocktails and hospitality. The successful applicant will prepare beverages consistently, support restaurant service and help maintain an organised, compliant and well-stocked bar operation.
About the role
The Bar Attendant will prepare cocktails, wine, beer, spirits, coffee and non-alcoholic beverages for restaurant guests. The role also includes bar preparation, stock control, cleaning and supporting front-of-house service.
The position requires availability across a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Main responsibilities
- Prepare and serve cocktails, wine, beer, spirits, coffee and non-alcoholic beverages.
- Follow established beverage recipes, measurements and presentation standards.
- Provide guests with information about wines, cocktails and other beverages.
- Assist guests with beverage selections and appropriate food pairings.
- Prepare the bar before service and complete closing procedures.
- Prepare garnishes, juices, syrups and other bar ingredients.
- Monitor beverage stock and advise management when products require reordering.
- Receive, check and correctly store beverage deliveries.
- Assist with stocktakes and stock-rotation procedures.
- Maintain clean and sanitised bar equipment, glassware and work areas.
- Process beverage orders and payments accurately.
- Support floor employees during busy periods.
- Comply with responsible-service-of-alcohol requirements.
- Identify intoxication or underage-service risks and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Minimise wastage and follow portion-control procedures.
- Assist with the development and testing of seasonal cocktails and beverages.
Skills and experience
Applicants should have:
- At least 2 years of relevant bar experience.
- Experience preparing classic and contemporary cocktails.
- Knowledge of wine, beer, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages.
- Experience working in a busy restaurant or hospitality venue.
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to follow standard recipes.
- The ability to work efficiently during high-volume service periods.
- A current NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Knowledge of Italian wine, aperitivo culture, amari and Italian cocktails will be highly regarded.
Employment conditions
- Permanent, full-time employment.
- Salary between $79,500 and $85,000 based on experience
- Approximately 38 hours per week, with reasonable additional hours where required.
- Evening, weekend and public-holiday work will be required.
