We have an opportunity for a Senior Engineer, Grid Connections to play a key role in connecting new generation, storage and large customer loads to AusNet’s electricity distribution network. Working at the forefront of Victoria’s energy transition, you'll help deliver the technical solutions that enable renewable energy projects, battery storage and emerging technologies to connect safely and reliably to the grid.
Reporting to the Manager, Grid Connections Engineering, this role is based at Southbank, Melbourne and sits within the Grid Connections Engineering team.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
Undertake detailed power system studies and network analysis using tools such as PSCAD, PSSE, PowerFactory and SINCAL to support generator, battery, storage and large load connections.
Lead technical assessments and provide recommendations to ensure compliance with Chapter 5 and Chapter 5A of the National Electricity Rules.
Support the development and negotiation of Generator Performance Standards and connection solutions that enable the energy transition.
Investigate network capacity, reliability, power quality, system strength and stability impacts associated with new connections.
Collaborate with customers, developers, AEMO and internal stakeholders to facilitate successful connection outcomes.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across grid connection processes, technical standards and customer experiences.
Provide technical guidance, mentoring and knowledge sharing within the broader team.
You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:
Degree qualifications in Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience undertaking detailed power system studies and grid connection assessments within utilities, consulting or the broader energy sector.
Strong knowledge of the National Electricity Rules, particularly Chapter 5 and Chapter 5A connection processes.
Experience with generation, battery energy storage systems, inverter-based resources and electricity network operations.
Proficiency in power system modelling tools such as PSCAD, PSSE, PowerFactory and/or SINCAL.
The ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders and build strong working relationships.
A passion for renewable energy, innovation and helping accelerate Australia's energy transition.
Registered Professional Engineer status (or eligibility to obtain registration) and a current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
