As a Principal Instrumentation Engineer , you will play a key role in delivering complex instrumentation and control solutions across major hydrocarbons and LNG projects. Working as part of a highly experienced I&C team, you will provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from detailed design through to commissioning support, helping clients improve the safety, reliability and performance of their operating assets.
Reporting to the I&C Lead Engineer, you will contribute to detailed design and execution support scopes for brownfield and greenfield projects, with opportunities to work across a diverse portfolio of hydrocarbons projects. This is a full-time position based primarily at Worley Head Office, 240 St Georges Terrace, Perth, with occasional site visits and flexible working arrangements available.
The role
- Deliver discipline-specific engineering services that meet Worley, client, statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Undertake engineering design and technical verification of project deliverables, ensuring quality, technical integrity and compliance with project objectives.
- Develop and review instrumentation and control system deliverables, including requirements specifications, scopes of work, functional specifications, control narratives and test documentation.
- Review key control schemes, P&IDs and process control philosophies to optimise process control outcomes.
- Support the design and implementation of control systems, including DCS, PLC and related automation systems.
- Interface with clients, vendors and multidisciplinary project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Participate in factory acceptance testing, vendor integration testing and commissioning activities.
- Provide technical input into procurement activities, including requisition preparation and technical bid evaluations.
- Promote Safety in Design principles and ensure HSE requirements are incorporated into all design activities.
- Support project planning activities including estimating engineering hours, managing scope changes and tracking performance against approved budgets.
- Mentor and support developing engineers while contributing to a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
- Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and industry developments within instrumentation, control and automation.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong technical expertise in instrumentation and control engineering, together with a collaborative approach and a passion for delivering quality outcomes.
You will also have:
- A recognised engineering degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent, with eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia.
- Proven experience delivering instrumentation and control system design and execution projects within the hydrocarbons, LNG, oil and gas, or related process industries.
- Strong brownfields experience gained within operating plant environments.
- Demonstrated experience developing control system design documentation, functional specifications and commissioning deliverables.
- Experience with Honeywell Experion control systems will be highly regarded.
- The ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed project teams.
- A commitment to mentoring and developing engineers and sharing technical knowledge.
- Current EEHA competency and FSEng qualifications are desirable but not essential.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and client relationship management skills.
