A Construction Worker performs a variety of physical tasks on construction sites, assisting with building, repairing, and maintaining residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects. The role requires following safety regulations, operating tools and equipment, and supporting skilled tradespeople to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the construction, renovation, and demolition of buildings and structures.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials and equipment.
- Prepare and clean construction sites.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and basic construction machinery.
- Mix, pour, and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt.
- Dig trenches, level ground, and perform excavation-related tasks.
- Assist carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and other tradespeople.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding and temporary structures.
- Follow workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations and site procedures.
- Report hazards, incidents, and equipment issues to supervisors.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good condition.
Requirements
- Previous construction or labouring experience preferred but not always required.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift heavy materials.
- Understanding of workplace safety practices.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable transportation to job sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- White Card (General Construction Induction Card) – mandatory for most Australian construction sites.
- Valid driver's licence.
- Forklift, EWP (Elevating Work Platform), or other relevant machinery tickets.
- First Aid certification.
- Trade apprenticeship or vocational training (advantageous).
