Ventia is recruiting multiple Seasonal Firefighters to join our team at Puckapunyal Defence Base.
This is a 6-month fixed-term, full-time opportunity, running from 1 November 2026 to 30 April 2027. Based at Puckapunyal Defence Base, this role provides critical range management and bushfire response services that support Defence training activities and help ensure live-fire ranges are operated safely.
Working within one of Victoria's largest Defence training environments, you'll play a vital role in bushfire prevention, preparedness and response. Beyond firefighting activities, you'll contribute to the ongoing maintenance and management of the training area, ensuring the site remains safe, operational and ready to support Defence capability.
This role offers a unique combination of firefighting, land management and operational support work, making it ideal for candidates who enjoy working outdoors, being part of a close-knit team and making a meaningful contribution throughout the fire season.
The Role
As a Seasonal Firefighter, you will:

Undertake first response bushfire firefighting activities
-
Operate firefighting vehicles, pumps and associated equipment
-
Support fire prevention and risk reduction activities across the training area
-
Conduct patrols, inspections and hazard assessments
-
Maintain roadsides, vegetation and training areas
-
Undertake general maintenance activities across the training area
-
Support live-fire training activities where required
-
Participate in emergency response training, exercises and preparedness activities

Work closely with Defence personnel and other operational teams
About You

To be successful, you will have:

Current Manual Driver's Licence

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Ability to work outdoors in varying and challenging conditions

Ability to read maps and navigate remote operational environments

A proactive attitude and willingness to contribute across a range of site activities

Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence

CFA or equivalent operational firefighting experience

Crew Leader qualifications

Experience operating emergency communication systems

Experience in land management, forestry, farming or related outdoor operational environments
