Nepean Hospital is an important referral and teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. It serves the local areas of Penrith, Hawkesbury and the Blue Mountains (comprising a population of 300,000 and growing) and accepts patients from as far as Lithgow and Bathurst flown in by helicopter retrieval services. Nepean Hospital is the Regional Trauma Centre for these areas. ICU positions are accredited with the CICM (ANZ), RACP, ANZCA, and ACEM for Intensive Care Training. Fellows are encouraged to prepare for appropriate exams.
The role of the Intensive Care Unit is to provide Intensive Care services to the community as well as providing emergency response to all wards within the hospital.
What you'll be doing
- Making a timely, structured and accurate assessment of a comprehensive range of life-threatening problems in a critically ill patient and apply life supporting therapy.
- Teach other clinical staff, to ensure an optimal learning environment, promote growth and development of others, and to develop skills in teaching.
- Engage in audits, clinical presentations and quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
- Participate in a 24/7 roster and may be rostered to day, evening or night shifts across a seven day roster.
- Participate in an on call roster with the support of the specialist on duty.
- Act as role model and promote a culture and supporting practices that reflect the organisational values through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with patients/clients/employees.
Where you'll be working
- 24 bed unit, funded for 21 beds (16 ICU, 5 HDU).
- The department has 10 Staff Specialists, 4 Fellows (Echo, ARTIC, Professorial and Provisional fellow often undertaking exam), 11 Fellows, 4 Senior Medical Resident Officers and 4 Residents.
