Backpacker Cars Australia (BCA) builds and fits out campervans from our workshop in St Kilda, Melbourne. We turn vans into road-ready homes for travellers heading off around the country, and we take pride in doing it well. We're a small, hands-on team with a good workshop culture and a genuine buzz about the work we do.
We're looking for a hands-on cabinet maker / fit-out installer to join us for a busy season ahead, starting 17 August 2026. There's plenty of work on, and we'd love someone who's keen to stick around for the full season. Most of our cabinetry comes from CNC pre-cut camper kits, so a lot of it is ready to assemble and install, but there's always a bit of simple custom work needed, so you'll get to use your hands and your head.
What you'll be doing:
- Assembling and installing CNC pre-cut camper cabinetry
- A bit of simple custom timber work where the build calls for it
- Some 12V electrical wiring
- Interior carpeting and lining
- General campervan fit-out tasks alongside the team
What we're looking for:
- Confident using tools like a router, track saw, drills and the usual workshop gear
- Some experience in cabinetmaking, joinery, carpentry or fit-out work. You don't need to be a fully qualified cabinet maker, but you should know your way around the tools
- Good motivation and a solid work ethic
- Reliable, and ideally available to stay on for the season
- An ABN (or willingness to get one). This role is on a subcontract basis for now, with the potential to move to a contract down the track
