Join our team as a Fire Mitigation Officer
Are you passionate about helping keep communities safe and making a positive impact across the Redlands Coast? In this role, you'll work closely with residents and stakeholders to reduce fire risks, educate the community and support compliance with relevant Local Laws and legislation.
As a Fire Mitigation Officer, you'll play a key role in delivering Council's fire mitigation program while also responding to illegal dumping and littering matters. Working across both mainland and island communities, you'll investigate property-related concerns, engage with residents, and contribute to positive environmental and community safety outcomes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking a balance of proactive fire mitigation activities, property assessments and community education initiatives, while responding to customer requests and identified fire hazards.
- Assessing private and public properties for fire risks, including overgrown vegetation, unsightly accumulations and other identified hazards.
- Investigating and responding to littering and illegal dumping.
- Educating and engaging with residents, community groups and stakeholders to promote awareness of fire mitigation and environmental responsibilities.
- Building productive relationships with community members, government agencies and other key stakeholders to support positive community outcomes.
- Collecting evidence, obtaining photographs, and preparing reports, notices and other compliance documentation.
- Case managing investigations and supporting compliance with relevant Local Laws, State legislation and Council policies.
- Conducting inspections and assessments across mainland and island locations.
- Working collaboratively as part of a supportive, high-performing team committed to continuous improvement and exceptional customer service.
Skills and experience:
- Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on negotiation, mediation and conflict resolution.
- Experience engaging with the community to educate, advise and influence positive compliance outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience conducting investigations and gathering evidence.
- Ability to interpret legislation and apply it in a practical and consistent manner.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and accurate reports, correspondence and compliance documentation.
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities, organise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Physical capability to safely perform outdoor and field-based duties.
- Demonstrated resilience, initiative and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Experience in fire mitigation, environmental compliance, land management, community education or a related field will be highly regarded.
