Primary objective
Provide comprehensive, quality, cost effective clinical dental treatment, oral health promotion, and specialist referrals to
eligible clients in urban community dental clinics, correctional facilities and rural/remote clinics in the Top End as designated
by service demand.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high quality comprehensive clinical services in accordance with the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law
Act 2009 to eligible clients, both adults and children in urban, rural and remote areas.
2. Maintain accurate and complete electronic client records and data collections in accordance with Top End Oral Health
Service procedures and protocols.
3. Using a Primary Health Care (PHC) approach to the delivery of oral health care, including engagement of clients in
treatment planning and the promotion of effective self-care.
4. Work effectively with all members of the Oral Health Team using well developed interpersonal skills and continue to
develop awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and other diverse community groups.
5. Continuously develop and maintain a high level of clinical knowledge, skills and competence in acute and primary oral
health care.
6. Actively participate in professional development activities and Continuous Quality Improvements (CQI) programs.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures relating to the
work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in Dentistry registrable with the Dental Board of Australia in the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation
Agency(AHPRA).
2. Demonstrated application of professional oral health knowledge and experience in the independent selection of
procedures for the clinical assessment, prevention, diagnosis, advice and treatment of commonly encountered oral
diseases and oral health problems.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to comply with, current infection control protocols.
4. Proven communication skills with an ability to engage and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures, ability
to work in a team environment.
5. Ability to travel to remote areas for up to a week at a time and the ability to provide effective oral health services in an
isolated environment.
6. Ability to comply with the requirements of WHS, Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) and Anti-Discrimination
practices and behaviours in the work environment.
