The Supported Independent Living (SIL) Support Worker provides person-centred support to NDIS participants living in shared or individual accommodation. The role focuses on assisting participants to develop and maintain independent living skills, achieve their NDIS goals, promote community participation, and enhance their overall quality of life while ensuring their health, safety, dignity, and wellbeing.
Key ResponsibilitiesParticipant Support
- Provide individualised support in accordance with participants' NDIS plans, goals, and support requirements.
- Assist participants with activities of daily living, including personal care, hygiene, grooming, dressing, and meal preparation.
- Support participants with medication administration in accordance with organisational policies and relevant legislation.
- Assist participants with mobility, transfers, and the use of assistive equipment where required.
- Promote participant choice, control, independence, and decision-making.
Independent Living Skills Development
- Support participants to develop and maintain life skills including:
- Household cleaning and maintenance
- Laundry and clothing care
- Meal planning and cooking
- Shopping and community access
- Personal organisation and time management
Community Participation
- Support participants to engage in social, recreational, educational, and employment-related activities.
- Assist participants to access community services and maintain social connections.
- Encourage active participation in community events and activities that align with participant goals.
Health and Wellbeing
- Monitor participants' physical and emotional wellbeing and promptly report concerns.
- Implement Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs), Risk Assessments, and other support strategies.
- Support participants to attend medical, allied health, and community appointments.
- Respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and behavioural concerns.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely progress notes, shift reports, incident reports, and medication records.
- Complete all required documentation in accordance with NDIS Practice Standards and organisational requirements.
- Communicate effectively with participants, families, guardians, support coordinators, allied health professionals, and other stakeholders.
Compliance and Quality
- Adhere to the NDIS Code of Conduct and NDIS Practice Standards.
- Maintain participant confidentiality and privacy at all times.
- Follow workplace health and safety policies, infection control procedures, and safe work practices.
- Participate in training, supervision, team meetings, and professional development activities.
Essential Requirements
- Certificate III or Certificate IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services, Mental Health, or equivalent qualification.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current Working with Children Check (where required).
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Current driver's licence and reliable vehicle (preferred).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of person-centred and recovery-oriented support practices.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Previous experience supporting people with disability, psychosocial disability, autism, intellectual disability, or complex support needs.
- Experience implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
- Experience in Supported Independent Living (SIL), Short-Term Accommodation (STA), or community-based support services.
- Medication administration training.
- Manual handling and infection control training.

Pay: $32.00 – $55.38 per hour
