The Role
We are seeking an experienced Typst Developer / Document Automation Engineer to join a high-performing engineering and automation team.
This is a hands-on role focused on building modern document generation platforms using Typst, enabling organisations to automate the creation of reports, proposals, contracts, statements, invoices, technical publications, and enterprise documents at scale.
You will play a key role in designing reusable Typst templates, developing document automation frameworks, integrating document workflows with enterprise applications, and helping modernise legacy reporting and publishing platforms through code-driven document engineering.
The ideal candidate will bring strong Typst expertise, software engineering fundamentals, document automation experience, and a passion for creating elegant, scalable, and maintainable publishing solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop reusable Typst templates for enterprise documents and reports.
- Build custom Typst components, macros, and styling frameworks.
- Automate document generation from APIs, databases, JSON, CSV, XML, and YAML data sources.
- Develop and maintain document generation pipelines and backend integrations.
- Implement advanced document layouts, formatting, and dynamic content rendering.
- Integrate Typst solutions with CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms, and microservices.
- Support document quality, performance, governance, and version control standards.
- Collaborate with engineering and business teams to deliver scalable document automation solutions.
What You'll Need
- Experience as a Typst Developer, Software Engineer, Document Automation Engineer, or similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Typst markup, scripting, templates, and document automation.
- Experience building reusable document frameworks and PDF generation solutions.
- Proficiency in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or Rust.
- Experience with REST APIs, data integration, and backend services.
- Working knowledge of JSON, CSV, XML, YAML, and SQL databases.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile delivery practices.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with LaTeX, Pandoc, InDesign, or similar publishing technologies.
- Knowledge of typography, page layout, and enterprise publishing standards.
- Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP cloud platforms.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerised environments.
- Experience modernising legacy reporting or publishing platforms.
- Exposure to AI-assisted document generation and automation solutions.
