Astrea Pty Ltd is seeking a Survey Technician to join our surveying team on a full-time basis. Based in North Ryde, NSW, this role is essential to our operations in the construction and surveying industry. As a Survey Technician, you will provide vital technical support to our surveying projects, ensuring accurate data collection and processing that underpins the success of our construction activities. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects and develop your expertise in modern surveying practices and technology.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct fieldwork using surveying equipment including total stations, GPS units, levels and laser instruments to gather precise measurement data on construction sites
- Assist senior surveyors in setting out building lines, levels and other control points for construction projects
- Record survey data accurately and systematically, ensuring all measurements and observations are documented to the highest standards
- Process and analyse collected survey data using industry-standard software and CAD applications
- Prepare technical drawings, plans and reports based on survey information
- Conduct site inspections and measurements for verification and quality assurance purposes
- Maintain and calibrate surveying instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Liaise with construction teams, engineers and clients to communicate survey findings and coordinate activities
- Comply with health and safety regulations and site-specific requirements
What we're looking for
- Certificate III or higher qualification in Surveying or a related construction discipline
- Demonstrated experience working as a Survey Technician or in a similar technical surveying role
- Proficiency in operating standard surveying equipment including total stations, GPS receivers, levels and laser distance meters
- Competency in survey data processing software and CAD programmes
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team and with external stakeholders
- Physical fitness and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to different project sites as required
- A valid Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one) and commitment to workplace health and safety standards
- Familiarity with relevant surveying standards and codes of practice in New South Wales
