The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Role
The Multicultural and Refugee Support Unit has responsibility for supporting schools with students of refugee background and delivering initiatives promoting multicultural inclusion access and equity in schools.
Our work includes
- managing refugee education supports for students and related programs/contracts, including the Refugee Education Support Program, the Schools Support Program, and Learning Beyond the Bell;
- administering key multicultural initiative and working in partnership with culturally, linguistically and religiously diverse community stakeholders;
- policy and programs supporting a culturally inclusive and respectful school environment, including the Preventing and Addressing Racism in Schools policy;
- providing advice to stakeholders regarding multicultural access and equity issues affecting schools and their students, such as needs of refugees and asylum seekers, engaging with parents and families, and multicultural inclusion;
- supporting and/or engaging with stakeholders on other complimentary tasks or initiatives, including whole-of-government work to support refugee settlement;
- delivery of the Victorian Government's Early Intervention Sports and Activities Menu.
The Policy Advisor will undertake a range of tasks that contribute towards strategic policy and team projects at every stage of the policy cycle. This will include research, analysis, development of policy options and the preparation of reports. The Policy Advisor may have responsibility for key projects and/or stakeholder relationships on behalf of the Unit and will regularly work alongside others in the Unit to support other responsibilities and activities.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a related discipline.
- Experience working in a school, or knowledge of Victoria's school system.
