Purpose of the Role
The Contract Administrator is responsible for the administration and management of construction contracts across commercial and industrial projects. The role focuses on contract compliance, commercial management, procurement, and cost control to ensure projects are delivered in accordance with contractual obligations, budget, and agreed timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer head contracts and subcontracts in accordance with project requirements and contractual obligations
- Prepare, review, and interpret contract documentation, including scopes of work, terms, and conditions
- Manage contract variations, including assessment, pricing, negotiation, and formal documentation
- Assess and process progress claims, payment schedules, and subcontractor claims in line with contractual requirements
- Monitor project costs against budgets and forecasts, identifying and reporting on variances
- Support procurement processes including preparation of tender packages, evaluation of subcontractor submissions, and recommendation for award
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date contract records, registers, and project documentation
- Liaise with project managers, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with contractual obligations
- Identify and manage commercial risks and contractual issues, including delays, claims, and disputes
- Assist in the preparation of cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial tracking documentation
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, codes, and Australian standards relating to construction contracts

- Analysing, preparing, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and variations
- Monitoring contract performance and ensuring compliance with agreed terms and conditions
- Managing contract documentation and maintaining accurate records
- Advising internal stakeholders on contractual matters, risks, and obligations
- Resolving contractual issues including claims, delays, and variations
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline
- Minimum 3 years full-time, relevant post-qualification experience as a Contract Administrator or in a closely related role
- Demonstrated experience working for a head contractor on commercial and/or industrial construction projects
- Proven experience in contract administration, cost control, and procurement processes
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial frameworks
- Ability to interpret and apply contractual terms and conditions
- Sound knowledge of cost management and financial reporting
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
- Effective negotiation and stakeholder management capability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in contract administration systems and Microsoft Office
Reporting Line
Reports to Commercial Manager or Project Manager
Work Environment
Primarily office-based with regular interaction with project teams, consultants, and subcontractors across active construction sites
Pay: $80,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year
