Your opportunity:
The Student Engagement Officer plays a key role in supporting student wellbeing, engagement, class attendance and successful participation in education. Working collaboratively with students and school staff, the Student Engagement Officer provides support to students who may be experiencing social, emotional, behavioural or personal challenges that impact their learning and school engagement.
The role focuses on early intervention, behaviour support and relationship building to ensure students remain connected to education and achieve positive learning outcomes.
This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people by helping them overcome barriers to learning, develop positive behavioural strategies and remain engaged in their education.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support and Engagement
Identify barriers impacting learning and engagement.
Provide early intervention, support and referrals.
Promote wellbeing, resilience and positive behaviour.
Develop strategies to support emotional regulation and social skills.
Behaviour and Re-engagement
Support students with behaviour management and re-engagement.
Manage the Behaviour Support/Re-engagement Room.
Use calm, consistent and restorative approaches.
Maintain accurate behaviour, movement and attendance records.
Communicate concerns with relevant staff and support teams.
School Collaboration
Work collaboratively with students, teachers and support staff.
Contribute to student support planning and intervention strategies.
Share relevant information to support student wellbeing and learning.
Promote a positive, inclusive and supportive school environment.
About you:
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
Experience supporting young people with behavioural, social, emotional or educational needs.
Strong behaviour management, de-escalation and student support skills.
Ability to build positive and respectful relationships with students, staff and families.
Calm, resilient and emotionally mature, with sound judgement in challenging situations.
Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Experience with case management, confidential records, referrals and OneSchool.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating initiative and professionalism.
Relevant qualifications and/or experience in youth work, education support, behavioural support, community services or student wellbeing.
Experience in an educational setting and knowledge of departmental behaviour and wellbeing processes is highly regarded.
