You’re agile, keen and open to meaningful work and opportunities that come your way.
You know that to make a meaningful contribution there needs to be connection and collaboration across the teams. Here’s your opportunity to help our people make a big impact.
In this role, you'll:
You will lead a team of employee relations professionals in a heavily industrial environment providing strategic industrial advice across the branch. As a leader, you will be required to guide and develop your team, whilst playing a hands-on role supporting and reporting into the Director Employee Relations.
While no two days are the same, as the role is the intermediatory between TfNSW (Transport for NSW) and the applicable unions, the work is fast-paced and varied with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders essential.
It is expected that should industrial matters escalate which involve significantly complex matters; you are able to represent TfNSW at relevant industrial and related tribunals including conducting your own advocacy and preparing required materials. You will be required to have strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to distil complexity as an essential.
This permanent position is available in a hybrid working model which are aligned with our Flexible Working Arrangements procedures which offers hybrid arrangements subject to approvals including having a mix of two to three days in our Macquarie Park office as well as remote working.

About you
You will be a resilient team player who has a comprehensive understanding of industrial relations, the legislative framework and employment law trends more broadly.
You have strong negotiation and influencing skills and strong communication and presentation skills when notifying risks and trends to the Executives. Above all else, you are professional and are cognisant of political sensitivities and the need to maintain confidentiality in your work.
This role would suit an experienced employment lawyer looking for a change or an ER professional who has solid industrial relations experience gained in a heavily unionised environment. The role is technical, so an appetite to get into the detail is non-negotiable. It is also expected you will possess strong drafting skills, the ability to draft considered communications and are skilled at thinking on your feet in high-pressure (and often combative) situations.
As a leader, you’ll have experience delegating and supervising work done by others and experience creating a motivating environment where the dedicated ER team is driven to achieve outcomes in a professional and ethical manner and in line with TfNSWs people strategy.
