Primary objective
As a member of the Aboriginal engagement and Strategy Unit, the Aboriginal Workforce Development Officer coordinates
Aboriginal and entry level employment programs in addition to contributing to the implementation of Departmental and NTPS
Aboriginal Workforce Development initiatives, strategies and plans across Alice Springs Hospital.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Contribute to the implementation of departmental and NTPS Aboriginal Workforce Development initiatives, strategies and
plans across Alice Springs Hospital.
2. Coordinate the Aboriginal and entry level employment programs and provide case management support and mentoring to all
participants including Cadets, School Based Trainees and Full Time Apprentices.
3. Undertake Aboriginal Workforce Employment projects and participate in programs to promote health careers such as work
experience, career industry tours, career days and expositions.
4. Collate and maintain workforce data systems, relevant information, personnel records and documentation to enable the
provision of routine and ad hoc reporting.
5. Develop and implement culturally appropriate tools and resources to enhance staff and patient communication and for use in
education and training sessions.
6. Lead and regularly facilitate the Aboriginal Staff Networking project to support career pathways and improve Aboriginal staff
retention.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity and challenges impacting on the employment and
retention of Aboriginal people with the ability to effectively apply this knowledge to develop and implement employment
initiatives.
2. Demonstrated experience in high level coordination of workforce employment programs and developing strong partnerships
with Aboriginal people, to produce successful employment and retention outcomes.
3. Demonstrated ability to prioritise and undertake multiple tasks, deliver outcomes in a timely and efficient manner, together
with a proven ability in case management, report writing, mentoring and project management.
4. Proven effective communication, negotiation and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff
within a multidisciplinary work environment, with an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
5. Demonstrated extensive experience in effective coordination and implementation of Aboriginal Workforce initiatives,
communication training, strategies and plans.
Desirable
1. Certificate IV in Training.
