Kew High School is a high performing co-educational school located in the inner eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The school was established in 1963 and continues to proudly provide an outstanding, holistic education to students of the local community. In 2025, Kew High School is comprised of 1002 students and 97 equivalent full-time staff. The staff includes 3 Principal Class members, 71 equivalent full-time teachers, 1.2 paraprofessional staff and 21.8 education support staff. The school prioritises high expectations and places students at the centre of a comprehensive learning and teaching program.

Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.
Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.
Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.
In recognition of the importance of leadership and management combined with exemplary teaching practice for improved student learning outcomes, the key roles of the leading teachers may include but are not limited to:

Leading Teacher - Instructional Leadership and Coaching
A team of four LT - Instructional Leadership and Coaching positions will work collaboratively on the portfolio of core responsibilities and key duties below. These positions are embedded within the Curriculum and Pedagogy team at Kew High School comprising the AP C&P, LT Curriculum Design and Assessment Systems, and the Principal. They are also members of the school Leadership Team, and Teaching and Learning Committee.
As a core driver of the school's Strategic Plan (2025-2029), these roles are designed to enhance instructional practice, build teacher capacity, and improve student outcomes through evidence-based coaching, collaboration, and leadership in teaching and learning. The role combines key responsibilities previously associated with Learning Specialists and Leading Teachers and reflects the school's commitment to high-impact teaching strategies, differentiation, inclusive practice, and restorative approaches.
While these are whole school roles and are members of the Curriculum and Pedagogy team, 2 LTs will be based in each sub-school to ensure a comprehensive understanding of each sub-school and the tailoring and targeting of whole school initiatives to address the specific needs of these distinct stages of schooling.
