Saigon Times Vietnamese Restaurant in Henley Beach is seeking a skilled and reliable Cook to join our kitchen team. We are looking for someone with experience in Vietnamese, Asian, or South East Asian cuisine who can work efficiently in a busy restaurant environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook Vietnamese dishes such as noodle soup, noodle salads, rice dishes, stir-fries, soups, curries, grilled meats, seafood, and vegetable dishes
- Prepare fresh ingredients, including herbs, vegetables, meats, seafood, noodles, rice, sauces, and broths
- Cook Vietnamese broths, marinades, sauces, and dressings according to restaurant recipes and quality standards
- Operate kitchen equipment safely, including woks, grills, steamers, fryers, ovens, and other cooking appliances
- Ensure dishes are prepared with consistent taste, portion size, presentation, and freshness
- Assist with preparing daily mise en place for lunch and dinner service
- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before cooking
- Store food correctly and manage stock rotation to reduce waste
- Support menu preparation and suggest improvements to Vietnamese dishes where appropriate
- Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen during busy service periods
- Work closely with the Head Chef and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth food service
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements
- Clean cooking areas, equipment, and utensils in accordance with restaurant standards
- Assist with ordering and monitoring ingredients commonly used
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent from an Australian education provider
- Minimum one-year full-time experience in a similar restaurant or kitchen role
- Strong experience in Vietnamese, Asian, or South East Asian cuisine
- Knowledge of Australian hospitality regulations and food safety standards
- Good kitchen management, time management, and food preparation skills
- Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment
