About the Role
The Park Rangers are an integral component of the City of Melbourne’s customer service delivery. They are the critical front-line link between open spaces and the many people using them. The significant emphasis of the Park Ranger’s work is to deliver an on-the-ground customer focused presence in the open spaces, and promoting positive park usage through education and enforcement programs.
Park Rangers administer a regulatory function and monitor appropriate standards of public safety in open spaces to ensure the ongoing protection of park assets. They also play a key role in continuous improvement in the area of customer service by regular reporting and assessing all activities within parks, undertaking regular scheduled patrols, and where required take appropriate actions against unsafe, unlawful, undesirable and illegal activities.
Park Rangers operate across all open space areas. Park Rangers have access to a corporation provided vehicle during work hours which is not available outside these hours. Hours of work for a given period are outlined in a roster prepared in consultation with all Park Rangers. As with all park ranger positions, the role requires that a considerable amount of work is undertaken on weekends and work outside normal business hours.
The role also requires the incumbent to act as an Authorised Officer of Council and enforce regulations and issue infringement notices.
