As part of our organisational redesign, we're introducing new roles that support Darebin's future focus and priorities.
Darebin City Council is seeking an experienced and commercially astute finance leader to coordinate our Financial Planning & Analysis function. Reporting to the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis, this is a key leadership role responsible for driving budget development, financial performance reporting, forecasting, business partnering excellence, financial sustainability of the organisation and team capability across the organisation.
About the role:
The position combines strong leadership responsibilities with the opportunity to influence long-term financial sustainability, service delivery outcomes and organisational performance.
Working closely with business leaders and key stakeholders, the role will provide strategic financial guidance, challenge assumptions, identify opportunities for improvement, and help ensure resources are aligned with Council's priorities and community objectives.
Beyond traditional financial management, the role will act as a trusted business partner, driving a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and evidence-based decision-making. The successful candidate will champion best-practice financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting processes while fostering a high-performing and customer-focused team environment.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced finance leader who is passionate about delivering meaningful insights, building strong stakeholder relationships and contributing to positive community outcomes through sound financial stewardship and strategic leadership.
You will:
- Lead Council's annual budget development process.
- Coordinate and mentor Finance Business Partners to deliver consistent, high-quality financial support.
- Oversee forecasting, variance analysis and management reporting activities.
- Lead quarterly financial review cycles and provide insights into organisational performance.
- Deliver strategic financial advice and reporting to senior leaders and executives.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial planning, analysis and business partnering practices
About you:
You are a collaborative and credible finance leader who combines strong technical expertise with a passion for developing people and partnering with stakeholders.
To be successful, you will bring:
- Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating a Finance, Management Accounting or FP&A function within a complex organisation.
- Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, management accounting and financial analysis.
- Experience managing organisation-wide budget and financial review processes.
- Proven ability to coach, develop and lead finance professionals.
- Advanced Excel and financial systems capability.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise senior leaders.
- A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
- CPA or CA qualification (or substantial progress towards completion)
