Wakefield Business Group is a professional accounting firm providing taxation and accounting, auditing, business planning and superannuation services. Located in Norwood, SA 5067, we are seeking a full-time Taxation Accountant to join our team.
The base salary offered is $75,000–$85,000 per annum plus superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Tax Return Preparation: Prepare tax returns for individuals and businesses, including GST, PAYG, income tax, individual, trust, partnership and company tax returns, ensuring timely lodgement and compliance with ATO requirements. Prepare and lodge SMSF tax returns.
- Tax Planning and Advisory: Provide tax planning advice to clients to assist in minimising tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with current Australian taxation legislation. Provide guidance on tax-efficient structures for individuals and businesses.
- Taxation Legislation: Keep up to date with changes in Australian tax laws, regulations and government policies to ensure clients remain compliant with current requirements.
- Financial Statement Analysis: Review financial statements to assess clients' tax positions, identify potential tax-saving opportunities and ensure financial transactions are appropriately classified for taxation purposes.
- Financial Investigations and Auditing: Conduct financial investigations, prepare detailed reports and assist with audit activities. Provide advice relating to business transactions, mergers, capital financing, fraud detection, insolvency and taxation matters.
- Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing clear and timely communication regarding taxation obligations, tax planning strategies and changes in taxation laws.
- Audit and Risk Management: Assist clients with tax audits and reviews by liaising with the ATO and preparing relevant documentation. Provide guidance to minimise risks relating to tax exposure and compliance.
- Superannuation and Payroll: Assist with superannuation compliance, including employee superannuation contributions and related reporting and lodgement requirements.
- Payroll Tax: Assist clients with payroll tax matters and related compliance requirements.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare comprehensive financial statements for presentation to directors, management and regulatory bodies, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Budgeting and Client Support: Assist clients with preparing budgets and provide support with various accounting and financial matters to ensure client needs are met efficiently and effectively.
- Accounting Systems Management: Introduce and maintain accounting systems and provide advice on the selection and application of computer-based accounting solutions to support efficient financial reporting.
- Internal Control Systems: Contribute to the development and maintenance of effective internal control systems to safeguard assets and support financial and regulatory compliance.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Accounting or a relevant discipline.
- 1–3 years of full-time work experience in a similar role.
- Sound understanding of Australian taxation law, financial reporting and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple client matters and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a professional accounting team.
- Familiarity with accounting and financial reporting systems.
