We’re seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer with Track eperience to join the Illabo to Stockinbingal (I2S) team, delivering one of the most significant greenfield rail infrastructure projects in Australia. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in the construction of a brand-new freight rail corridor that will transform the national supply chain and leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.
As the Senior Project Engineer – Track, you will be at the forefront of planning and delivering major track construction works, including formation preparation, ballast, sleepers, rail installation, turnouts, track geometry and commissioning activities. Working within a complex, large-scale greenfield environment, you will help drive safe, efficient and high-quality track delivery outcomes across the I2S project.
About the opportunity:
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will lead the engineering, planning and delivery of track-related works, ensuring activities are completed safely, on schedule, within budget and to the required standards. You will work closely with contractors, designers, rail systems teams and key project stakeholders to manage technical interfaces, resolve engineering challenges and support successful project delivery.
Key responsibilities:

Champion a safety-first culture across all track construction activities.

Manage the planning, coordination and delivery of track works across the I2S Greenfield corridor.

Provide technical leadership and engineering support for track construction methodologies and delivery strategies.

Coordinate and oversee contractor performance to ensure compliance with scope, quality, schedule and safety requirements.

Review and manage track design interfaces, technical queries, non-conformances and engineering changes.

Support construction planning, staging and commissioning activities to achieve project milestones.

Monitor track construction progress and provide accurate reporting on performance, risks and opportunities.

Lead and mentor Project Engineers supporting track delivery activities.

Support contract administration, forecasting, variations and commercial assessments.

Ensure alignment with ARTC, Inland Rail and relevant rail industry standards and specifications.

Build strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors, regulators and stakeholders.
About you
Working within the I2S Greenfield team, you'll gain exposure to some of the industry's most complex rail construction challenges while contributing to a project that will have a lasting impact on regional communities and the national economy.
To be successful, you will have:

Degree qualification in Engineering.

Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia.

Demonstrated experience delivering rail infrastructure projects in a site-based construction environment.

Strong experience in track construction, rail systems delivery, permanent way or heavy haul/freight rail projects.

Sound understanding of track installation, alignment, geometry, ballast, sleepers, rail systems interfaces and commissioning requirements.

Experience managing contractors and resolving complex engineering and construction issues.

Knowledge of rail safety legislation, standards and WHS requirements.

Strong communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.

Ability to operate effectively in a structured, high-compliance project environment.

Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
