Join Articore and help us fulfil our purpose to liberate human creativity
What is Articore
Articore owns and operates the leading global online marketplaces, Redbubble.com and TeePublic.com. The Group's community of passionate creatives sell uncommon designs on high-quality, everyday products such as apparel, stationery, housewares, bags and wall art. Through the Redbubble and TeePublic marketplaces, independent artists are able to profit from their creativity and reach a new universe of adoring fans. For the artists' customers, it's the ultimate in self-expression. A simple but meaningful way to show the world who they are and what they care about.
The Role's Purpose
Articore runs Redbubble, TeePublic, Dashery, and Frankly Wearing, some of the largest creator marketplaces in the world, with Redbubble's catalogue alone exceeding 40 billion SKUs. As Engineering Manager for the Infrastructure team, you'll lead a team of 4–6 engineers across three timezones, stewarding the foundational platform that our global marketplaces depend on.
The Infrastructure team drives system reliability, scalability, and performance, delivering core infrastructure services, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) expertise, and sophisticated tooling that enables engineers to deploy securely and efficiently across our hybrid AWS architectures (ECS and EKS/Kubernetes). You'll work closely with AU and US Engineering leadership to keep delivery moving across time zones, and play an active role in shaping the culture, ways of working, and day-to-day effectiveness of the team.
Key Responsibilities
As Engineering Manager, you'll make an impact across three areas: Delivery, People, and Technology.
Delivery
-
Planning & execution: lead delivery for the team, planning, work breakdown, rituals, unblocking, and managing dependencies to land product and technical objectives.
-
Product partnership: partner with the product manager to translate OKRs and business priorities into clear, achievable team objectives.
-
Cross-team alignment: coordinate with adjacent teams and engineering leadership to align roadmaps and land cross-team initiatives.
-
Continuous improvement: evolve team processes and reporting to make delivery reliable and predictable as the team scales and build a culture of accountability and visible progress.
People
-
Performance & development: own performance management, feedback, growth plans, and career conversations for the engineers on your team.
-
Coaching: coach engineers on technical practice, engineering craft, and the behaviours that make teams genuinely effective.
-
Culture & engagement: build and sustain a healthy team dynamic, clear expectations, psychological safety, and strong engagement across time zones.
-
Standards calibration: work with engineering leadership and peer managers to ensure consistent standards, expectations, and growth opportunities across the org.
Technology
-
Technical direction: steward your domain's architecture, ensuring solutions meet business objectives and align with Articore's Engineering Principles, Tech Radar, and architecture standards.
-
Operational ownership: champion responsible ownership of your team's systems — fit-for-purpose observability, reliability, and support for the demands each system faces.
-
Capability building: continuously assess team capabilities against roadmap demands and close gaps through hiring, training, or rotation.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
-
Engineering leadership: 7+ years of experience managing engineering teams, ideally in infrastructure, platform, or a closely related domain.
-
AWS & containers: 5+ years overseeing containerised systems within AWS, specifically leveraging EKS (Kubernetes) and ECS to manage networking, security, and scaling.
-
DevOps proficiency: deep technical proficiency in DevOps practices and tooling — with a focus on Terraform, Helm, CI/CD pipelines, and robust observability.
-
Delivery track record: proven ability to lead teams delivering complex software — including modern agile practices, dependency management, and cross-team coordination.
-
Technical breadth: strong understanding of modern software development and architectural patterns across cloud, web, mobile, or data.
-
AI fluency: experience using AI tooling in your day-to-day workflow, and genuine curiosity about applying it more deeply.
Key Competencies
-
People leader: you bring proven experience in mentoring, feedback, goal-setting, and performance management and you genuinely care about the career growth of the people you lead.
-
Global operator: you have the communication, discipline, and async judgment required to keep work moving effectively across multiple time zones without losing momentum or clarity.
-
Clear communicator: you can translate technical complexity for non-technical stakeholders and align decision-makers around outcomes, timelines, scope, and risk.
-
Balanced decision-maker: you're comfortable navigating the tension between system health and delivery pressure, and you prioritise your time effectively across parallel, often-ambiguous efforts.
-
Inclusive collaborator: you engage stakeholders across disciplines, backgrounds, and seniority with equal ease and you lead teams confidently through change.
