Our organisation
The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) is the Australian Government's primary authority on radiation protection and nuclear safety. Our purpose is to protect the Australian people and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation, through understanding risks, best practice regulation, research, policy, services, partnerships and engaging with the community.
Section overview
The Safety Systems Section is responsible for developing ARPANSA’s capability to assess holistic safety aspects of its licence holders’ activities, incorporating technical, human and organisational factors affecting or contributing to safety into the assessments. This will be achieved partly through the RSB compliance monitoring program and working in close collaboration with the wider regulatory team. Safety Systems manages the Regulatory Administration Database (RAD), analyses trends in licence holder performance and promotes continuous improvement and holistic safety in licence holder activities. It facilitates the assessments of efficiency and effectiveness of ARPANSA’s regulation of Commonwealth licence holders, manages the RSB quality system including assisting regulatory staff to follow workflows, and regulatory content on the ARPANSA website. The section supports the Nuclear Safety Committee.
Primary purpose of the role
In this role, you will provide a broad range of administrative and regulatory support services to the Regulatory Services Branch (RSB) and the Director of Safety Systems. You will develop a working knowledge of ARPANSA’s regulatory systems, including ARPANSA legislation and regulatory policy, and become proficient in using the RAD. You will use RAD to monitor workflows, support business processes, and provide functional advice to ARPANSA staff and stakeholders. Drawing on RAD data, you will also undertake routine analysis and draft performance reports on ARPANSA’s regulatory activities and contribute new ideas and identify opportunities to improve our processes.
You will plan, coordinate and facilitate meetings and events, including the annual branch training day and the annual licence holder forum. You will also provide administrative secretariat support to the Nuclear Safety Committee (NSC), and manage procurement activities, including purchase orders and invoicing.
The role is a key administrative point of contact between ARPANSA and its stakeholders. You will build rapport and maintain productive working relationships with stakeholders, including by providing advice on straightforward regulatory and compliance matters.
