Position Summary
Training Officers work in a dynamic vocational, education and training environment in which they have to adapt and be responsive to changes in national curriculum, the VET Quality Framework, technological developments and a diversity and breadth of client training demands.
The role of the Training Officer embraces the extent of the learning process from program enquiry/advice through to assessing and determining the training requirements of clients, following onto managing the learning process for clients using a variety of training strategies including recognition of prior learning, recognition of current competencies, training delivery, workplace learning, delivery and assessment, formal assessment and reporting etc..
The training Officer will have the vocational skills in the area that they are applying for with a minimum of three to five years’ experience in their chosen vocational area.
The Training Officer ideally would have at least have obtained the following competencies from the Training and Assessment Training Package or is able to demonstrate equivalent competencies. However if the candidate does not have these competencies or the full Training & Assessment Qualification they will agree to work with an accredited assessor until this qualification is achieved.
The Training Officer is expected to be innovative in responding effectively to the training demands of clients. The Training Officer works in a wide variety of learning environments providing a range of flexible training and learning strategies to best meet the client needs including flexible delivery, workplace training and assessment, training room delivery, on line learning support etc.
The Training Officer will be expected to be able to work effectively as a member of a team and be required to be involved in a range of course/program coordination and administration activities that support the effective operation of the company and the achievement of learning outcomes for participants.
POSITION PARAMETERS
1. SUPERVISION AND ACCOUNTABILITY The position reports to the Manager and may work in a number of program areas.
2. LOCATION Training Staff are required to work on site or at a designated training facility.
3. PARTICIPATION ON COMMITTEES Training Officers are required to attend program meetings and team meetings, or other external committees as required.
Duty Statement
1. Develop and manage the learning process for participants.
2. Train in a range of subjects and programs in a variety of learning modes at locations specified by the Manager. (See Attachment 1 for position details)
3. Prepare quality learning and assessment resources within the context of established curriculum, training packages under the national framework, competency standards, the diversity of students and client’s requirements. Unless otherwise agreed with the Training Officer, Intellectual Property in all material developed or produced shall remain within Industry Training & Workplace Services.
4. Participate as a member of a team on a range of tasks including curriculum and program development, program delivery, professional development, marketing activities and administrative and operational functions.
5. Undertake, where required, course coordination and a range of planning tasks relevant to the delivery of quality courses.
6. Provide support and advice to participants of diverse cultures, backgrounds and abilities and implement appropriate support strategies and/or learning programs and strategies as required.
7. Undertake as required a range of participant support service tasks to ensure the effective operation of the Company, for example participant selection, course advice, enrolment and telephone enquiry support.
8. Research, adapt and develop innovative learning practices and delivery options that enhance the Company's capacity to meet the demands of participants.
9. Manage the delivery of training services to industry, including workplace visits, assessing training needs, developing training plans and coordinating the effective delivery of programs.
10. Participate in and contribute to the development and implementation of evaluation and continuous improvement processes across the Company.
11. Undertake regular professional development to maintain and continuously improve individual professional and vocational competencies as a Training Officer.
12. Comply with the quality assurance requirements of the Australian Quality Training Framework and the company’s Quality System.
SELECTION CRITERIA Qualifications
1. The minimum training qualification is the Certificate IV in Training & Assessment or equivalent.
2. It is mandatory to have relevant vocational competence at or higher than the level being delivered or assessed through having qualifications and/or relevant industry experience.
3. Training Officers who do not hold the minimum or equivalent training qualification must undertake professional development to gain the training qualification within 12 months of commencement. In the interim, the training officer must agree to be mentored by a qualified Trainer who does hold the minimum or equivalent qualification

2. Demonstrated experience in contributing to development of learning resources.
3. An understanding of current developments and innovative approaches in training.
4. Demonstrated experience, or ability to, develop and conduct training programs suitable to the needs of industry.
5. Demonstrated record of innovation in training and proven commitment to undertake regular professional development to maintain and continuously improve individual professional competence.
Communication Skills
1. Proven ability to operate effectively as a member of a team.
2. High level interpersonal and communication skills.
3. Demonstrated ability to provide support and advice to students of diverse cultures, backgrounds and abilities.
Administration
1. High level organisational skills
2. Demonstrated experience in contributing to the overall functioning of the company including record keeping, course maintenance and quality improvement and ability to use all relevant technology.
