- Temporary role until September 2027 based in Sydney, NSW
Join us as a Senior Advisor Media - Screen, where you'll play a key role primarily in promoting the department's screen initiatives and supporting government priorities through strategic media and public affairs.
Working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, you'll collaborate with senior executives, Ministerial Offices, industry stakeholders and media outlets to deliver proactive media opportunities, manage reactive issues and contribute to the department's reputation through impactful communications.
About the role
As the Senior Advisor Media, Screen, you will:
- Develop and deliver proactive and reactive media strategies that support the department's priorities and government agenda.
- Research, write and coordinate high-quality media releases, responses, holding statements, Q&As, talking points and other communications materials.
- Monitor the media landscape, identify emerging issues and provide strategic advice on reputational risks and opportunities.
- Manage media enquiries and issues, delivering timely, accurate and balanced responses under tight deadlines.
- Coordinate media conferences, interviews, announcements and events for senior executives and Ministers.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with journalists, Ministerial Offices, advisers and key internal stakeholders.
- Analyse data, research and audience insights to identify compelling stories and develop engaging media content.
- Collaborate with communications colleagues to deliver integrated campaigns across a range of media and digital channels.
- Experience in film/screen media and public relations is highly desirable.

About You
You are an experienced communications professional with strong media instincts, sound judgement and the ability to work confidently in a high-profile government environment. You enjoy building relationships, thrive under pressure and are passionate about delivering clear, engaging communications that make an impact.
To be successful, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience developing media and communications materials, coordinating media representatives, and implementing public relations strategies to deliver government communications. Experience working closely with Ministerial Offices and Ministerial Advisers in a government environment.
- An understanding of the screen industry and demonstrated experience delivering media and communications projects within this context.
- Outstanding writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within tight timeframes.
- Sound analytical skills and the ability to identify emerging issues and develop effective media responses.
Essential requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, public relations or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
- Availability to participate in an after-hours, on-call and weekend roster as required.
