About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Barber to join our team. This individual will be responsible for providing haircuts to persons in our care, alongside training and mentoring prisoner workers, helping them enhance their technical skills, knowledge, and customer service abilities. The Barber will work with our education provider in delivering training programs, provide feedback, and ensuring adherence to industry standards, while maintaining high-quality service. The Barber will support training of vital skills to persons in our care with a view to assisting in long term job prospects and enabling support back into community.
Some of your duties will include:
- Effectively manage all work areas to ensure the safety and security of prisoners, staff and visitors. This includes appropriate levels of surveillance and interaction within the facility, and monitoring staff and prisoners with all Occupational Health and Safety, and security procedures.
- Provide haircuts, trims, and styling services based on customer preferences and within the limitations of organisational framework.
- Provide exceptional customer service to ensure a comfortable, welcoming, and professional atmosphere.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to assist prisoner barbers grow professionally, improve performance, and enhance their confidence.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and sanitised work environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
- Manages teams effectively in complex situations, providing clear direction, advice and necessary support in day-to-day work and in developing and implementing new processes and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience within a correctional services environment (desirable).
Qualifications/requirements
- A relevant proven qualification and experience as a professional barber.
- Demonstrated experience in training, mentoring, or teaching others is highly desired.
