Aboriginal Restoring Families Coordinator (New Position)
Part-time, 30.4 hours a week – Fixed Term to 30 June 2027
This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
About the Role
The Aboriginal Restoring Families Coordinator works across Rumbalara programs to improve how Aboriginal families access and engage in the Restoring Families supports. The role helps ensure services are well-coordinated, culturally safe, and easy for families to navigate within Rumbalara.
The role acts as a central point of coordination, actively identifying Aboriginal families who will benefit from Restoring Families and supporting timely support and respectful pathways into the program. Working closely with the Team Leader, the role supports triage and allocation processes and strengthen collaboration and shared practices across Rumbalara programs. The role also supports staff to confidently promote the program, obtain informed consent, and engage with families that are respectful, culturally safe, and family-led ways. By monitoring service demand, capacity, and emerging issues, the role contributes to planning, reporting, and system coordination through Child and Family Alliance and partnership arrangements. Through coordinating access to targeted supports, and supporting shared assessment and planning, that links services across community, health, education, justice, and family violence systems work together. This promotes joined-up responses that respect Aboriginal self-determination and support strong outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.
About You
To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:
Qualifications and Registrations:
- Diploma in Community services or similar or one of the following (or willingness to work towards):
- Lived experience, community knowledge and cultural authority are recognised and valued alongside formal qualifications in line with Aboriginal community-controlled practice.
Knowledge and skills:
- Good understanding of Aboriginal community-controlled services and Restoring Families, and how these systems support Aboriginal children and families.
- Experience identifying Aboriginal families across different programs who may need extra support and helping to make sure they are connected to the right services as early as possible, working closely with other services and partners.
- Proven ability to bring services together, coordinating support across programs and organisations so families receive joined-up and consistent care.
- Strong skills to support frontline workers , including helping staff understand service options, including clear and respectful consent processes, and encouraging culturally safe and respectful ways of working with Aboriginal families.
- Ability to track service demand and pressure , identify risks or emerging issues early, and respond with practical solutions through collaboration and problem-solving.
- Clear and effective written communication skills, including preparing reports that will support service planning, day-to-day management, and shared decision-making with partner organisations.
- Experience in coordinating access to targeted Aboriginal supports , such as Aboriginal family group conferencing, and helping different services (community, health, education, justice and family violence) work together on assessment and planning for families.
