Job Description
This position has been created at JHC to enhance physician training. The Medical Education Registrar (Physicians Training) will assist with the professional and educational development of BPTs and be involved with some of the Hospital’s strategic committees. There will also be a requirement to spend part of their time (up to 0.5 FTE) in clinical medicine.
About the role
The Medical Education Registrar (Physician Training) provides a high degree of coordination and support to BPTs and DPE to enhance systems, policies and procedures aimed at improving BPT experience and advocacy at JHC.
The position will work collaboratively with the DPE and the Director of PGME and be primarily responsible for the coordination, development, and facilitation of BPT orientation, teaching programs and FRACP Examination. Part of the FTE (not more than 50%) will require the candidate to perform clinical duties. Other duties include, but are not limited to:

Assisting the DPE in selecting candidates into the physician training program

Organising the physician training which includes delivery and coordination of teaching events, supervision and support to trainees and liaising with other key stake holders in liaison with BPT.

Assisting the DPE in allocation of clinical rotations for the basic physician trainees (BPTs).

Organising tutorials, journal clubs, exam preparation program and to deliver an exam in collaboration of other sites with feedback.

Facilitating the clinical exam training program (includes appointing clinical tutors and mentors, weekly short and long case rounds, short case blitzes, inter-hospital Saturday exams, mock clinical exams, and public long case examinations).

Organisation and conductance of FRACP clinical exam site at JHC annually in accordance with RACP guidelines under supervision of DPE and other key stake holders.

Assist and maintain accreditation status of JHC as a teaching site and conduct appropriate accreditation surveys as per RACP guidelines on collaboration with DPE.

Collaborate with PGME to ensure fluid education and teaching between BPTs, non-BPTs with JMOs and medical students.

Organise and assist in Simulation & Registrar transition and other education in liaison with PGME.

Participate in BPT orientation.

Advocacy for BPTs.

Collaborate with SCGH and other WA hospitals’ BPT programs.

Assist general medicine and specialties with AT (advance training) related applications.
Essential Criteria
-
Eligibility for registration by the Medical Board of Australia.

Significant progress towards attaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Advanced Trainee status or significant progress towards an Advanced Trainee position in a recognised specialty. Details of relevant training and experience.

Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills at an individual and team level. Must be able to show an ability to get on with colleagues and work in a multidisciplinary environment.

Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities with the ability and the experience to pass on knowledge to the Hospital’s junior medical staff.

Demonstrated interest in and commitment to quality assurance. This requires a commitment to and on-going involvement in the quality assurance parameters set by the Hospital.
