Join a team where passion for food meets innovation!
Brunswick, VIC | $80,000-$85,000 + super (FTE) | Full-time or part-time considered
Glendal Food Co., a leader in exceptional prepared food solutions, is looking for a practical and creative Product Development Chef / Technologist Coordinator to take new products from concept through to commercialisation. This hands-on role combines culinary development with disciplined project coordination, ensuring ideas become commercially viable, factory-ready products that meet customer and business requirements.
About the Role
Reporting to the GM Operations, you will coordinate product development projects from customer brief and bench trial through to factory scale-up and launch. You will be a key link between Culinary, R&D, Operations, Procurement, Sales, QA and Marketing, keeping timelines, costings, documentation and stakeholders aligned.
What You Will Do
- Create and optimise products: Develop new products from customer briefs, market trends and business priorities, and improve existing products for cost, quality or performance.
- Scale concepts for manufacturing: Translate kitchen recipes into practical, factory-ready formulations and lead bench, pilot and factory trials.
- Coordinate projects end to end: Build timelines and critical paths, prepare samples, manage milestones and provide clear progress updates.
- Support commercial outcomes: Prepare accurate recipe costings, help source and approve ingredients, protect margin targets and identify sensible cost savings.
- Deliver quality and compliance: Work with QA on specifications, allergens, nutritional information, shelf-life validation and FSANZ requirements.
- Embed successful launches: Support scale-up and first production runs, troubleshoot formulation or process issues and ensure recipes suit manufacturing capability.
- Maintain strong systems and insights: Keep PD trackers and technical records audit-ready while monitoring trends, competitors and emerging ingredients.
About You
We are looking for someone who brings:
- Relevant experience: 2-5+ years in food manufacturing, product development or a closely related environment.
- Culinary and technical grounding: A qualification in Commercial Cookery, Food Science or a related field, plus sound product development expertise.
- Manufacturing know-how: A practical understanding of recipe scale-up, food production processes, food safety and regulatory requirements.
- Commercial awareness: Confidence with costings, margin analysis, IT/AI suites and Excel; experience with ERP or product development systems is desirable.
- Project coordination strength: The organisation and attention to detail to manage multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders at once.
- A collaborative mindset: Clear communication, confident presentation skills and a creative, solutions-focused approach.
