About the Role
Vegmasters is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team at our vegetable processing facility in Silverwater, NSW.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the reliability, maintenance, optimisation and continuous improvement of our vegetable processing machinery, production equipment, forklifts, company vehicles and facility infrastructure.
This is a hands-on engineering role working closely with our production and maintenance teams to ensure equipment operates safely, reliably and efficiently while minimising production downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, maintain and improve the reliability and performance of processing machinery and production equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and develop practical engineering solutions to minimise equipment downtime.
- Develop, implement and manage preventative maintenance programs and schedules.
- Analyse equipment performance and recommend modifications, upgrades and improvements to increase reliability, efficiency and safety.
- Work closely with production and maintenance staff to identify and resolve equipment-related issues.
- Provide technical support for the installation, modification and commissioning of machinery and equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals and engineering specifications.
- Carry out and coordinate mechanical repairs and maintenance across the site as required.
- Assist with the maintenance and coordination of repairs for forklifts and company vehicles.
- Source suitable spare parts and manage critical spare-parts requirements to minimise production downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment histories and technical documentation.
- Ensure all engineering and maintenance activities comply with HACCP, GMP, food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Complete Hot Work Permits and other relevant maintenance and safety documentation where required.
- Ensure machinery, equipment and maintenance activities comply with applicable safety requirements and standards.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in mechanical engineering, equipment maintenance or reliability engineering, preferably within a food processing or manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good knowledge of preventative maintenance and equipment reliability principles.
- Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks and manage multiple maintenance requirements.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience in food manufacturing and knowledge of HACCP and GMP requirements will be highly regarded.
