Clayton Utz is seeking a Manager, Professional Capability Development, to lead a shift in how we build capability across the firm. Working closely with the Head of Leadership and Learning and the broader People and Development team, you will translate firm strategy into practical, applied learning experiences that build capability where it matters most: in the flow of real client and matter work.
The key accountabilities of the role will include:
-
Leading the design, delivery and continuous evolution of the firm's professional capability curriculum, shifting from a program-based model to an in-role, apprenticeship-style approach.
-
Co-creating and executing a continuous learning strategy that integrates in-role development, short-course content and digital resources.
-
Facilitating high-impact learning experiences directly with lawyers, leaders and business services employees.
-
Bringing initiative and creative problem-solving to reimagine how capability is built at Clayton Utz.
-
Championing change, bringing partners, practice group leaders and other stakeholders along on the shift towards apprenticeship-style development.
-
Overseeing initiatives within agreed budgets and timeframes.
-
Managing and developing the Learning and OD team through regular check-ins and performance conversations.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
-
A qualification in learning and development, organisational psychology, adult education or human resources, or equivalent experience.
-
7+ years' experience in learning, capability or organisational development, preferably within a professional services or knowledge-intensive environment.
-
Proven experience leading a team, with a track record of lifting individual and team performance.
-
Thinks in terms of experiences, creating development that balances both individual and strategic needs and translates into measurable performance impact.
-
A track record of facilitating directly with senior stakeholders, including lawyers, leaders and business services employees, on complex or sensitive subject matter.
-
Demonstrated experience leading change with senior stakeholders, including partners and practice group leaders.
-
The curiosity to gather, analyse and interpret information to then identify capability gaps and recommend practical solutions that close them.
-
Self-motivation, adaptability and comfort operating with ambiguity while a new model for capability development is embedded across the firm.
With a presence in all our major offices, the National People and Development (P&D) team advises the business on all people initiatives, including talent management, employee relations, resourcing, recruitment (both graduate and lateral), remuneration, benefits, reporting, and learning and organisational development.
