The Role
The Configuration Manager provides configuration management specialist services in support of the acquisition and sustainment across the project. The role is accountable for establishing, implementing and assuring configuration management frameworks, processes and controls across the program in accordance with Defence policy, applicable standards and quality management systems. This position ensures configuration integrity of complex systems and data environments across the system lifecycle, spanning requirements, design, integration, verification, certification and sustainment. Operating under the oversight of the Director, the Configuration Manager works collaboratively with engineering and technical leadership teams, project managers and industry partners to ensure consistent, compliant and auditable configuration practices across multiple contracts and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish, implement and continuously improve the Configuration Management framework, ensuring alignment with Defence policy, regulatory requirements and recognised standards.
- Enforce configuration management policies, processes, procedures and data standards
- Provide authoritative configuration management advice to program and engineering leadership, informing governance, risk and assurance activities.
- Ensure configuration management activities are auditable, traceable and support certification and operational acceptance.
- Oversee identification and baselining of configuration items, ensuring appropriate structuring across systems, software and supporting artefacts.
- Manage configuration baselines across the lifecycle, including functional, allocated, product and as-maintained baselines.
- Lead and facilitate configuration control processes, including Change Control Boards, Engineering Review Board impact assessments and approval workflows.
- Ensure accurate and timely configuration status accounting, reporting on configuration state, changes and integrity.
- Integrate configuration management with engineering change management, requirements management and data management processes.
- Ensure traceability between capability requirements, design artefacts, test evidence and delivered configuration.
- Assess configuration impacts of change proposals, technical risks and contractor deliverables, providing recommendations to decision-makers.
- Ensure configuration management supports effective contract management, including review of ASDEFCON deliverables and data item descriptions.
About You
You will bring demonstrated configuration management experience within Defence or comparable complex engineering environments, spanning both acquisition and sustainment. You will be confident operating autonomously, applying professional judgement, interpreting technical and policy frameworks, and influencing senior technical and program stakeholders. You will also bring strong knowledge of configuration management principles, standards and frameworks, with the ability to support compliant, auditable and integrated practices across complex multi-stakeholder programs.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in Configuration Management within Defence or comparable complex engineering environments, spanning acquisition and sustainment.
- Strong working knowledge of configuration management principles, standards and frameworks.
- Experience implementing and assuring configuration management across complex, multi-stakeholder programs.
- Proven ability to operate autonomously, exercising judgement in the interpretation and application of policy and technical frameworks.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Required Criteria
- Experience within similar defence projects and familiarity with ASDEFCON contracting frameworks.
- Understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes and integration with configuration management.
- Experience with configuration management tools and environments
