2. Position Summary
The Retail Manager (General) is responsible for the day-to-day management and commercial performance of I Love Dumplings Express, a take-away restaurant trading from Craigieburn Village Shopping Centre, Craigieburn VIC. The role holds full operational and financial accountability for the store, including product and menu range, stock and supplier management, pricing and promotion, customer service standards, staff supervision, financial record-keeping, budgeting, and compliance with food safety and occupational health and safety obligations. The position requires sound commercial judgement, strong people management skills, and a working knowledge of the quick-service food retail environment.
3. Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Retail Manager (General) is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Determine the stock levels and service standards for I Love Dumplings Express to ensure the range of dumplings, wok dishes, fried rice, noodles, snacks and beverages offered meets customer demand and maintains consistent food quality and availability across the trading day.
- Formulate and implement purchasing and marketing policies, and set prices for menu items, taking into account ingredient costs, supplier terms, competitor pricing and seasonal demand, to protect the profitability of the business.
- Promote and advertise the goods and services of the establishment, including planning in-store promotions, social media and local marketing activity, and liaising with delivery platform partners to build the store's customer base and repeat trade.
- Sell goods and services to customers and advise them on menu items, ingredients, spice levels and dietary considerations (including vegetarian options), ensuring a high standard of customer service at the counter and for takeaway and delivery orders.
- Maintain accurate records of stock levels and financial transactions, including daily sales reconciliation, cash handling, EFTPOS and point-of-sale reporting, and stocktakes of food and packaging inventory.
- Undertake budgeting for the establishment, including forecasting sales and controlling food, labour and overhead costs against budget, and reporting on trading performance to the director.
- Control the selection, training and supervision of kitchen and front-of-house staff, including rostering, on-the-job training in food preparation, hygiene and customer service standards, and performance management.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and food safety requirements, including those under the Food Act 1984 (Vic) and Council registration conditions, and oversee safe work practices in food handling, storage and service.
4. Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required
- Relevant qualification in business, retail management, hospitality management or a related field, and/or at least three years of relevant full-time experience in retail or food service management.
- Demonstrated experience in managing product/menu mix, stock control and supplier relationships within a retail or food service environment.
- Sound understanding of pricing, budgeting and financial record-keeping for a small to medium retail business.
- Proven ability to recruit, train, roster and supervise staff in a fast-paced customer service environment.
- Working knowledge of food safety standards and occupational health and safety obligations applicable to food premises in Victoria.
- Strong customer service, communication and problem-solving skills.
5. Working Conditions
The position is based at I Love Dumplings Express, 14/330 Brookfield Boulevard, Craigieburn VIC 3064. The role is full-time and may require work across a rotating roster including evenings, weekends and public holidays in line with the trading hours of the business, consistent with standard practice in the retail and food service industry.
6. Remuneration
Remuneration will be paid in accordance with the applicable modern award and/or relevant employment contract, and will meet or exceed any minimum salary threshold applicable under the relevant skilled migration program.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $79,500.00 – $80,000.00 per year
